Starting from the third position, Evans quickly showcased his prowess, maneuvering past prominent racers including polesitter Jean-Éric Vergne and Nissan’s Oliver Rowland by lap 7. His aggressive yet calculated driving saw him challenge both TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa, highlighting the intense competition on the track.

As the race unfolded, the top drivers fiercely competed to avoid the mid-pack turmoil and secure podium finishes. By lap 16, Wehrlein led the pack with Evans in hot pursuit, both demonstrating exemplary skill and energy management. The dynamic duo maintained a close battle, with Evans seizing an opportunity on lap 19 to overtake da Costa, further intensifying the race’s excitement.

Nick Cassidy, Evans’ teammate and current championship leader, strategically climbed to fourth place by lap 23, leveraging his energy reserve to challenge the leaders. The Jaguars’ meticulous energy management became evident as Cassidy overtook da Costa, positioning himself for a podium finish.

In a nail-biting final lap, Wehrlein’s energy deficit forced him into a defensive stance. Evans capitalized on this, executing a daring pass on the outside to seize the lead, while Cassidy narrowly secured third place, fending off Rowland’s late challenge.

The race concluded with da Costa in fifth, Jake Dennis in sixth, and Vergne in seventh, despite starting from pole. Nyck de Vries earned his first points for Mahindra by finishing eighth. Maximilian Günther and Sébastien Buemi rounded out the top ten, though a penalty for Günther later promoted Stoffel Vandoorne into the points.

This triumph propels Nick Cassidy to the top of the Drivers’ standings with 155 points, with Wehrlein and Rowland trailing closely. Jaguar TCS Racing solidifies its dominance in the Teams’ standings, extending their lead by 66 points, showcasing their consistent performance with three wins in the last four races.

Reflecting on his victory, Mitch Evans expressed,

“Super happy, but it was not an easy race to manage. Starting towards the front can be good, it can be bad, but I think we managed it well. I thought I got into the lead at the right time, but actually Pascal [Wehrlein] kind of caught me napping a bit into Turn 8 and he put his nose up and then had another go at me. I’m surprised they didn’t get anything for going off track and passing me, so we have to look at that afterwards.

I had the energy advantage so I just wanted to bide my time and hopefully let the race come to me, and it did so yeah, super stoked to get this one three for [Jaguar TCS Racing Team]. Great points for our championship, it was a good one.”
