Australian Red Meat Now Gains Premium Ground Across MENA!

  • Australian red meat exports to MENA surpass record A$2.2 billion milestone.
  • Premium grainfed beef demand accelerates across UAE and wider region.
  • Foodservice sector fuels growth amid tourism and fine dining expansion.
  • Innovation and sustainability take centre stage at Gulfood 2026.

Premium dining trends across the Middle East and North Africa are reshaping how red meat is sourced, valued, and consumed. In 2025, Australian red meat and livestock exports to the MENA region reached a record A$2.2 billion, signalling a decisive shift toward quality-led consumption and reinforcing Australia’s position as a trusted supplier to one of the world’s fastest-growing premium markets.

Announced by Meat and Livestock Australia through its global brand Aussie Beef and Lamb, the milestone reflects more than just volume growth. Over the past five years, export growth to MENA has outpaced every other global market, driven by rising incomes, expanding tourism, and a rapidly evolving foodservice landscape. The region is no longer defined by demand for lean, high-volume cuts alone. It is increasingly shaping global expectations around grainfed beef, chilled formats, and consistent eating quality.

The UAE sits at the centre of this premiumisation story. Australian beef exports to the country reached a record A$316 million in 2025, with chilled beef accounting for an impressive 84 percent of imports. The average unit value of Australian beef shipped to the region grew at a compound annual rate of 6.1 percent between 2020 and 2025, significantly outpacing global averages and highlighting the region’s appetite for higher-value offerings.

Foodservice continues to be the engine behind this momentum. Around 70 percent of Australian beef exports to MENA are now utilised by restaurants, hotels, and catering operators. With regional tourism numbers projected to rise sharply over the next five years, demand for reliable, premium protein across fine dining and hospitality is set to strengthen further. Australian sheepmeat follows a similar trajectory, with consumption forecast to grow steadily through 2029 and Australia maintaining its leadership position as the region’s primary supplier.

Trade and trust play an equally important role. The Australia–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has removed tariffs on Australian red meat, enhancing competitiveness and accessibility. Every shipment entering the region is 100 percent Halal-certified under the Australian Government Authorised Halal Program, reinforcing confidence across retail and foodservice channels.

Innovation also takes a prominent role at Gulfood 2026, where 37 Australian exporters are showcasing alongside five global innovators addressing sustainability, ambient storage, and nutrient-dense wellness products. From sustainable packaging solutions to next-generation food technologies, the focus reflects an industry preparing for the future while responding to today’s premium-led demand.

As MENA continues its shift toward premium dining and quality-driven sourcing, Australian red meat stands well positioned to support the region’s ambitions. With trusted Halal assurance, strong trade access, and a clear focus on innovation, the sector’s record performance signals momentum set to continue well beyond 2026!
