Dubai’s culinary scene is set to take a bold step towards sustainability as ne’ma, the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, partners with Taste of Dubai 2025 to minimize food waste at one of the city’s most anticipated food festivals. Following the success of their efforts at Taste of Abu Dhabi, where they diverted 310kg of food waste and prevented 775kg of CO2 emissions, this collaboration aims to set a new benchmark for responsible event management in the region.

Taking place from February 14 to 16 at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre, the festival is expected to welcome 25,000 food enthusiasts. Throughout the three-day event, ne’ma will work alongside top chefs, restaurants, and vendors to implement structured waste reduction strategies. The initiative will introduce dedicated waste segregation stations, trained personnel for efficient disposal, and a composting program to repurpose waste into agricultural resources. Visitors will also gain insights into practical ways to reduce food waste in their daily lives, reinforcing the message that sustainability begins at home.
Khuloud Hasan Al Nuwais, Chief Sustainability Officer of Emirates Foundation and ne’ma Steering Committee Secretary-General, emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into mainstream events, stating, “By providing practical solutions and raising awareness, we aim to inspire long-term behavioral change and shift towards more responsible food consumption.”

Maddy Spicer, Marketing Director of MENA Live Events, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the role of large-scale festivals in driving change. “We are proud to use our platform not only to entertain but to integrate meaningful sustainability initiatives that impact thousands of people.”
By turning food waste into a resource rather than a burden, ne’ma and Taste of Dubai are proving that large-scale events can be both indulgent and eco-conscious. As the UAE continues to champion sustainability, this collaboration serves as a powerful reminder that every meal shared should also be a step toward a greener future.
