Abu Dhabi Festival Now Brings UAE Culture to Vienna’s Biggest Concert!

The UAE arts initiative expands its global cultural dialogue through music.

  • Abu Dhabi Festival partnered with one of classical music’s biggest events.
  • The concert attracted more than sixty thousand attendees in Vienna.
  • Leading musicians explored music’s role in cultural diplomacy and exchange.
  • The initiative strengthens artistic connections between the UAE and Europe.

Music has long succeeded where politics, language and geography sometimes struggle. A single performance can bring together audiences from different cultures, backgrounds and perspectives, creating a shared experience that transcends borders. That belief sat at the heart of Abu Dhabi Festival’s latest international collaboration as it joined the Vienna Philharmonic’s renowned Summer Night Concert as an artistic and cultural partner.

Held at the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace Gardens on June 19, the annual open air concert welcomed more than 60,000 attendees while reaching millions more through international broadcasts. Widely regarded as one of the world’s most significant classical music events, the Summer Night Concert has become a global celebration of artistic excellence.

Conducted by Lorenzo Viotti and featuring acclaimed baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, this year’s performance once again highlighted the enduring appeal of classical music. For Abu Dhabi Festival, however, the partnership represented something even larger than a single evening of music. It reflected the festival’s continued commitment to intercultural dialogue and international artistic collaboration through its Abu Dhabi Festival Abroad programme.

Across the world, cultural institutions are increasingly being recognised as powerful tools for diplomacy. Art, music and creative exchange create opportunities for conversation and understanding that often reach audiences more effectively than traditional channels.

As part of its Vienna programme, the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation partnered with the UAE Embassy in Vienna to host an Art @ Embassies discussion titled Classical Music as Cultural Diplomacy. The session brought together influential figures from the international music community, including Vienna Philharmonic Managing Director Michael Bladerer, Concertmaster Yamen Saadi and conductor and musicologist Toufic Maatouk.

Moderated by Emirati filmmaker Noor Kanoo, the discussion explored how artistic partnerships help strengthen cultural understanding while celebrating diversity within classical music traditions. Speakers reflected on their own experiences connecting Middle Eastern and European musical influences and discussed the role musicians continue to play as cultural ambassadors.

As audiences increasingly seek meaningful cultural experiences, international collaborations have become an important part of strengthening global dialogue. Abu Dhabi Festival has consistently positioned itself within that conversation by supporting initiatives that encourage artistic exchange and cross cultural understanding.

Through partnerships like the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert and the Art @ Embassies initiative, Abu Dhabi Festival continues to highlight the UAE’s role within the global cultural landscape. By bringing together artists, institutions and audiences from different parts of the world, the festival reinforces a simple but powerful idea!
