The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, the first traditional stone Hindu temple in the Middle East, recently concluded its month-long “Festival of Harmony” with a vibrant community procession. This event served as a testament to the spirit of interfaith harmony, diversity, and community collaboration.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by the presence of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, marked a pivotal moment. The Mandir itself stands as a symbol of the enduring friendship between India and the UAE, made possible by the generous land donation from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

  • Day of Harmony: Representatives from major religions, including Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism, came together to celebrate common values and promote interfaith understanding.
  • Day of Civilization: This event highlighted the beauty of cultural diversity, showcasing the unique stories and contributions of various civilizations through the Mandir’s intricate carvings.
  • Day of Peace: Distinguished guests shared their insights on achieving peace through various aspects of life, including education, environment, health, and social justice.
  • Day of Inspiration: Over 2,000 women attended an event celebrating their crucial role in society and featuring inspiring speakers.
  • Blood Donation Drive: More than 500 individuals participated, demonstrating the commitment to social welfare.

The grand finale of the Festival of Harmony was a colorful community procession, the “Palkhi Yatra,” featuring over 1,100 participants. The procession showcased the vibrant tapestry of the Indian diaspora in the UAE, with participants wearing traditional attire, performing music, and dancing. This event highlighted the unifying spirit of the BAPS Hindu Mandir and served as a fitting conclusion to the month-long celebration of harmony.
