Dubai Number Plate Auction Offers a Rare Chance to Bid Big!

RTA’s 121st open auction features sought-after two-digit plates and a chance to own a distinctive number.

  • RTA will offer 60 distinctive vehicle plates at its October auction.
  • Two-digit highlights include BB 80, BB 18 and CC 44.
  • Bidding takes place on 24 October at Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City.
  • Participants need a Dubai traffic file and an AED 25,000 deposit.

In Dubai, a number plate can say more than a car’s make or model. A short combination of digits can carry personal meaning, signal exclusivity or become a talking point among fellow motorists. That fascination returns to the spotlight on 24 October, when the Dubai number plate auction brings 60 distinctive vehicle plates under the hammer at Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City. For collectors, the numbers are the main attraction.

Some combinations catch the eye almost immediately. At the Roads and Transport Authority’s 121st open auction, two-digit plates BB 80, BB 18 and CC 44 are among the headline offerings, alongside three-, four- and five-digit options. The selection spans ten codes, including AA, BB, CC, H, U, V, W, X, Y and Z. There’s plenty to look through.

For buyers who value symmetry, repetition or numbers that are easy to remember, the appeal goes beyond a registration detail. A distinctive plate can hold sentimental significance, mark a personal milestone or become part of a collector’s portfolio. The auction brings those preferences into one room, where bids determine what each number is worth to its next owner.

Dubai has a track record of attracting substantial interest in these sales. At the RTA’s 120th open auction in December 2025, total proceeds reached approximately AED 109 million, with plate BB 12 achieving the highest bid at AED 9.66 million. That result offers context for the market’s appeal, although no particular outcome is guaranteed at the October event.

For anyone considering a bid, the practical details matter as much as the numbers on display. Registration opens on 19 October through the RTA website or at Customer Happiness Centres in Umm Ramool, Deira and Al Barsha. The auction takes place on Saturday, 24 October, at Al Joud Hall, Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City, with the event scheduled for 4:30 PM. Participants can arrive from 2 PM.

Bidders must have a traffic file in Dubai and provide a security deposit cheque for AED 25,000, refundable if they do not win a plate. There is also a non-refundable participation fee of AED 120, and a 5% VAT applies to plate sales. Successful bidders must settle the winning amount within ten working days to avoid forfeiting the deposit.

For those interested in Dubai’s distinctive vehicle plates, this auction offers a fresh selection to consider, from memorable two-digit combinations to longer numbers with personal appeal. Review the available plates and participation conditions on the RTA website before registering, then decide which numbers are worth pursuing!
