Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial company in the UAE, and Aluminium Corporation of China (Chinalco) have taken a significant step forward in their collaboration on developing an alumina refinery in Guinea. This milestone was marked by the signing of a framework agreement during the UAE state visit to China.
The agreement, a crucial progression in their cooperation, was signed at the UAE-China Business & Investment Forum in Beijing. It was witnessed by prominent figures including His Excellency Mohammad Hassan Al Suwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, His Excellency Ling Ji, Vice Minister and Deputy International Trade Representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China, and Mr. Zhang Yujing, President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products.
Representing their respective companies, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, and Mr. Dong Jianxiong, Vice President of Chinalco and Chalco, formalized the agreement. The partnership aims to jointly progress the project’s feasibility and explore joint investment opportunities.
EGA, through its subsidiary Guinea Alumina Corporation, operates a bauxite mine and associated export facilities in Guinea’s Boké province. This collaboration with Chinalco underscores EGA’s commitment to expanding its influence and operational capacity in Guinea, further enhancing its position in the global aluminium industry.
The agreement not only highlights the strengthening ties between the UAE and China but also sets the stage for significant industrial and economic development in Guinea, benefiting the global aluminium supply chain.
