The Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS) 2024 concluded its highly anticipated third edition at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on May 22. Spanning from May 20-22, the event attracted thousands of visitors and featured over 150 global exhibitors, solidifying its position as a pivotal event in the electric vehicle industry.

EVIS 2024 provided a vibrant platform for industry leaders, enthusiasts, and the public to explore the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology. One of the highlights was the opportunity for attendees to test drive the newest electric vehicles, experiencing firsthand the rapid acceleration and silent operation that define modern EVs. This hands-on experience underscored the significant strides in automotive engineering and electric mobility.

Central to the event was the Technology Park, a hub for innovation where universities, tech incubators, and entrepreneurs showcased their most recent contributions to e-mobility. The venue also hosted the Student Innovation Award and Startup Awards, spotlighting emerging leaders in the electric vehicle sector. Eng. Naser Ali Al Bahri, Managing Director of Nirvana MICE, emphasized the importance of these initiatives: “EVIS 2024 is not just a conference; it’s a platform that fully engages every participant in the possibilities of electric mobility. Our exciting milestones, like the Technology Park and Outdoor Test Drive, allow attendees to experience the future right now.”

The event was inaugurated by H.E. Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), under the patronage of the MoEI. In his opening speech, H.E. Eng. Al Olama reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to building a sustainable transport system. He highlighted the country’s initiatives to promote green mobility and accelerate the reduction of CO2 emissions from the transport sector, one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gases.

H.E. Eng. Al Olama noted the growing popularity of electric vehicles in the UAE, where electric and hybrid vehicles currently make up 3% of all vehicles on the road. According to a report by the International Energy Agency, the UAE ranked second in the Middle East for EV sales in 2023, with electric vehicles accounting for 13% of total car sales. He also outlined ambitious plans to increase the share of EVs to 50% of all vehicles by 2050, supported by the development of an integrated charging station network linking all emirates.

EVIS 2024 also highlighted the UAE’s collaborative efforts with neighboring countries, including the development of an EV Gulf Corridor linking the UAE with Saudi Arabia and Oman. This initiative aims to ease the movement of electric vehicles across borders, promoting a seamless and sustainable transportation network.

The summit featured prominent industry players such as Lucid Motors and Techera. Lucid Motors showcased their Lucid Air model, renowned for its luxurious design and impressive 840 KM range per charge. The company’s plans to expand into the UAE market signal exciting developments in the region’s electric vehicle landscape.

Techera highlighted its innovative Wecharge mobility service, alongside a range of AC and DC EV chargers and energy storage solutions. Their display included electric marine products, such as electric jet skis and outboard motors, which drew significant interest from attendees.

As EVIS 2024 concluded, the event was marked by record attendance and exceptional feedback, reinforcing its status as a critical event in the electric vehicle industry. Eng. Naser Ali Al Bahri expressed his satisfaction with the summit’s success: “The tremendous response and positive feedback from this year’s summit have exceeded our expectations. It’s a testament to the vibrant future of the electric vehicle market.”

The success of EVIS 2024 underscores the growing enthusiasm for electric mobility and sustainable transportation solutions. With numerous organizations already confirming their participation for next year, the excitement for EVIS 2025 is already building, promising continued growth and innovation in the electric vehicle sector.

As the Middle East leads the charge towards a sustainable future, EVIS 2024 stands at the forefront of this transformation. The event offered a dynamic venue for discovering the latest trends, networking with industry leaders, and witnessing the technologies that will define tomorrow’s transport solutions.
