There’s something satisfying about watching coffee take its time. In Dubai’s fast-moving café culture, where a morning cup can happen between a Metro ride and a meeting, World Coffee Day Dubai is getting a slower treatment at Kairos Coffee Assembly this October. On Thursday, 1 October, guests can stop in for complimentary V60 tastings, poured one cup at a time. Slow works.
For coffee drinkers who usually order by habit, a V60 can turn that routine into a tasting session. Head barista ‘Groove’ will pour water by hand through a paper filter, allowing three coffees to show off their individual personalities rather than being folded into one familiar flavour. It’s coffee with a little theatre.
One cup leans dark and rich. Colombia, grown in Huila at 1,750 metres and naturally anaerobically fermented, brings notes of grapes, dark chocolate, raisins and plum. It finishes slowly. For anyone who likes a fuller coffee with fruit beneath the depth, this is the one to linger over.
A lighter mood arrives with Ethiopia from Guji Hambela, grown above 1,950 metres. Floral notes meet candied orange and apricot, creating the sort of delicate cup that invites another sip before you even realise it. It’s bright, fragrant and unhurried.
Then Kenya brings the fruit forward. The Miiri natural process produces blackcurrant, cherry, honey and tamarind, with a rounded finish that stays generous to the last sip. It’s expressive stuff. Three origins, three very different conversations in the cup.
Regular café visitors know the small rituals that make a favourite spot feel personal. It might be the barista who remembers the usual order, the familiar seat by the window or the quick coffee that turns into a longer catch-up.
