Just watched Jigra (2024), and honestly, it left me feeling a bit “meh.” With all the hype around it, I expected a movie packed with energy and emotional intensity, but it ended up falling flat in a lot of areas. I’d give it a solid 3 stars, mostly thanks to Alia Bhatt’s performance.
Let’s start with the positives—Alia was amazing, as always. Her portrayal of a sister ready to do anything to protect her brother had some powerful moments. You could see the madness in her eyes, the kind of dedication that really pulls you in. But as passionate as she was, the movie just didn’t match her level. It lacked the energy I was hoping for, especially with a title like Jigra—which, by the way, makes you think of strength and spirit. Sadly, that wasn’t the vibe.
Vedang Raina, who plays Alia’s brother, had so much potential, but he was barely on screen. His character was cute, and you could tell there was more to him, but the film didn’t give him the room to really show what he could do. It’s like they forgot he was supposed to be important to the story, which was such a missed opportunity. Their sibling bond was supposed to be the emotional core of the film, and while the chemistry between them was there, it didn’t get the depth it deserved.
Muthu- the character played by Rahul Ravindran, who had a smaller but pivotal role, actually stood out. His performance had weight, and he brought some much-needed gravitas to the movie. But even with him being great, the film as a whole just felt… mild. It lacked that punch.
And don’t even get me started on the action scenes. For a movie that’s supposed to be intense, some of the action was pretty illogical. There’s a scene where Alia’s character falls off a cliff, and I’m thinking, “Okay, here comes a big moment,” but then she just randomly lands on a tree branch. I mean, come on. Stuff like that just pulls you out of the experience because it makes zero sense.
In the end, Jigra had the potential to be something special, especially with such a strong theme of sibling love and Alia’s performance leading the way. But it missed the mark. It’s worth watching if you’re an Alia Bhatt fan, but don’t go in expecting a lot of depth or logic in the storytelling.
