When you think of Dubai, you think bling, brunches, and Burj Khalifa—not gangsters belting tunes and gamblers pirouetting across the stage. But MTDXB (Musical Theatre Dubai) is flipping that script faster than a jazz hand on espresso. This homegrown theatre fam just hit their four-year milestone and, to celebrate, they’re pulling out the big Broadway guns: Guys and Dolls, live this May.
MTDXB isn’t just your average after-work hobby club—it’s where Dubai’s creatives come to vibe, thrive, and occasionally jazz square. What began in 2021 as a small passion project is now a full-blown artistic movement, proving there’s more to this desert city than malls and Marina selfies. Think over 50 cast members, a 14-piece live band, and enough razzle-dazzle to make Times Square blink twice.
Bethanie Mitchinson, one of MTDXB’s founding forces, sums it up best: “Dubai moves fast, but this group slows things down—in the best way. We’ve built more than just shows; we’ve built friendships, community, and a whole lotta backstage chaos.” (Okay, she didn’t say the last part, but we felt it.)

The upcoming Guys and Dolls production (running 21–24 May at The Shyam Mankani Auditorium, Sunmarke School, JVT) is bursting with sass, soul, and swing. It’s a rom-com with dice, a musical with heart, and a reminder that love can hit harder than a New York minute. Picture Sky Masterson suavely falling for uptight Sarah Brown, while Nathan Detroit dodges marriage like a seasoned player dodging rent. Toss in some punchy dialogue, killer choreography, and 1950s New York flair, and you’ve got yourself a night.
Director Claire Bennett calls the show “a celebration of love, luck, and community”—a fitting tribute to a group that’s become a second home for so many. And it wouldn’t be possible without local support from community heroes like Sunmarke School, KPS Interior Fit-Out, and a battalion of off-stage wizards making the magic happen.
So whether you’re a theatre nerd, musical junkie, or just looking for an excuse to wear sequins on a school night, this is your sign. Grab those tickets now at www.mtdxb.com/tickets, and for behind-the-scenes drama (the fun kind), follow @mtdxb_ on Instagram.
Trust us—this ain’t amateur hour. It’s community theatre at Broadway level, and it deserves a full house and a loud “bravo!”
