Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has unveiled an exciting special edition of The Global 50 report titled “Youth and Future Generations,” just ahead of the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York. The report draws on insights from global and UAE-based experts, with a focus on innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of today’s youth and future generations. As the world faces significant shifts in demographics, technology, and societal structures, the DFF aims to spark conversations that can shape a better, more sustainable future for everyone.

This special edition highlights opportunities drawn from previous Global 50 editions, mapping them to key areas of discussion at the UN Summit, such as the draft UN Pact for the Future and the Global Digital Compact. These opportunities span across crucial sectors like health, education, energy, and governance, and emphasize the power of innovation in tackling complex global challenges. The report brings forward ideas like AI-powered smart homes that adapt to human needs, “Public AI” as a public good, and rapid infection detection systems that could revolutionize public health.

One of the report’s standout contributions comes from Dr. Ameena Al-Sumaiti of Khalifa University, who envisions AI transforming urban living for future generations. Another key thought leader, Lambert Hogenhout from the UN, asks a bold question: “What if part of AI was a public good?” These and other visionary ideas from contributors, including UAE University’s Dr. Farah Al Marzooq and Queen’s University’s Dr. Eddy Ng, paint a vivid picture of the possibilities that lie ahead if we embrace innovation and prepare future generations to thrive.

With the global youth population—currently at 1.2 billion—set to decline significantly by 2100 due to lower fertility rates, the urgency of supporting young people today has never been greater. This report serves as a rallying call for world leaders and communities to invest in the next generation, ensuring that they have the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to shape a brighter future.
